Please contact your personal insurance agent for details on coverage, prices and professional recommendations. The information listed below are ONLY provided as recommendations by Black Tie Productions, Inc.
One of the biggest questions when planning a special event where alcohol is to be served is: WHO IS LIABLE FOR ALL THESE PEOPLE DRINKING? You will find the answers to many of your liability questions and much more in this section. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
Q: Who is responsible for alcohol related incidents?
First, keep in mind that as a bartending service, we only act as a liaison between you and your guests. The law states that since there is no actual form of currency being passed over the bar from guest to bartender, the host or persons purchasing the alcohol are most liable for any incidents that may occur. We do have insurance that covers the company. This insurance DOES NOT cover the host/client.
Q: Is there any insurance available for wedding receptions or special events?
Yes! In fact it is a very simple procedure. Contact your homeowner/renters insurance agent and have them add a two day special event rider to your policy. It is what they call a HOST LIQUOR LIABILITY POLICY. You may even already have it on you policy and only need to have the coverage raised for your special day.
Many banquet facilities do require proof of liability insurance. The above mentioned policy would be adequate. Some banquet facilities include a policy with the price of the rental. This type of insurance may be sufficient. To be sure ask for details and the exact coverage needed. To acquire the services of Black Tie Productions, Inc. you must have liability insurance. We do recommend using your own insurance even if the hall supplies a policy. You can never have too much liability insurance. Again, our insurance will not cover the host/client.
Q: What does the insurance cover and how much should it cost?
The insurance usually covers $300, 000 to $550,000 per incident in liability and is not limited to alcohol related incidents and should cost $0-$100.00. Please check with your insurance agent for details on coverage, prices and professional recommendations.
Q: How do I know how many bartenders I need to service my guests?
It is real simple to figure out how many bartenders you need from how many guests you expect. 225 guests or less, you need only one bartender. From over 225 to 500 guests, you need two bartenders. Number of bartenders also depends on the package purchased, a full bar compared to just beer and wine or a non-alcoholic bar. If you have any questions, please call.
Q: Can we use pitchers for serving beer? Can we serve shots of straight alcohol?
Because Black Tie Productions promotes the responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages, our liability insurance stipulates we are unable to serve beer in pitchers. When pitchers of beer are used, we are unable to carefully monitor each of your guests. The same goes for serving straight shots of alcohol. We only allow shots of alcohol to be served during the dollar dance.
